The reviewer team of km77.com (Spain) has conducted a series of sudden obstacle evasion tests with a Range Rover Sport and posted a video according to which the SUV barely managed a clean run at 69 km/h (43 mph).
The first attempt by the test driver to do a clean 77-kmh (47.8-mph) run culminated in the car jumping completely out of its lane, hitting multiple traffic cones and failing to get back on track within the designated area. By dropping the speed as low as they felt they had to, the team then proceeded to raise it little by little. In the end, though, they were only able to complete one clean run at 69 km/h (43 mph). Any faster than that proved completely unattainable.
Commenting on the incident, km77.com pinpointed the blame on the huge weight of the P510e hybrid spec tested. The SUV weighs more than three metric tons (6,600+ pounds) in this version, not least because of a heavy battery pack. The test car wore stock 23-inch wheels and Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires.
As dismal as the result of the Range Rover Sport looks, it actually surpasses that of the standard Range Rover, which flopped even harder at a moose test in 2022 with the best result of 63 km/h (39.1 mph).
Interestingly, the Range Rover Sport showed its better side during slalom, with the crew pointing out responsive steering and overall decent course stability. The excessively large turn radius was another point of criticism, though.
