Range Rover production starts in India

For the first time in history, Land Rover is assembling its Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models outside of the UK.

The company has just launched its production line at a factory owned by Tata Motors in Pune, India, near Mumbai. While this specific factory had never assembled any Range Rover models before, it had produced a large number of other JLR vehicles over the past 13 years, starting with the Land Rover Freelander for the local market. Until recently, the industrial complex in Pune had produced four different Land Rover SUVs.

For the time being, all vehicles made by JLR in India are meant exclusively for that country’s domestic market. All examples produced are equipped with entry-level three-cylinder engines. Indian customers who would like a larger and more powerful engine in their Land Rover have to order one shipped from the UK.
