Chinese automaker Leapmotor has secured support from Stellantis to introduce a new all-electric vehicle in Europe. Called the B05, it will debut at the IAA Munich expo on September 9–14 and will land in the same market niche as the Volkswagen Golf.
There are still no photos of the car itself, but you can check out the gallery for some other Leapmotor models. While the company itself insists it’s targeting the Golf with the B05, the model actually sounds like it could be aiming at a higher segment – the one occupied by the VW ID.3, Cupra Born and MG4 EV, to name a few. It is described as a vehicle with an “upscale” appearance and a rich standard trim with a 14.6-inch infotainment display included by default.
Unofficial reports claim that the Leapmotor B05 will cost from €35,000 when it goes on sale. €33,000 buys you a VW ID.3 in Germany, and the Golf lineup begins at €28,500.
Leapmotor seems to have big plans for Europe. It’s already confirmed an intention to sell its B10 SUV there, advertised as a rival of the Ford Explorer EV and the Peugeot e-3008. It is also considering making the A10 SUV and the A05 hatchback available in the region. By 2027, the company plans to make it into the list of the world’s top-5 New Energy Vehicle manufacturers and have six NEVs on sale on the Old Continent.
