Stellantis is getting ready to begin selling the affordable EVs produced by its latest Chinese partner, Leapmotor, in the EU. The first ship loaded with 800 vehicles has already sailed from China, says Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares.
The sales are set to begin this September in nine EU countries, including Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands and France, Automotive News Europe reports without naming specific models.
Later on, Stellantis plans to localize the production of multiple Leapmotor EVs at its own factories, integrating the Chinese brand into its own parts logistics and distribution network. According to Tavares, many dealerships have already applied for distribution permits for these cheap electric cars from China.
