Stellantis to produce Leapmotor T03 for Europe in Poland

The Chinese urban EV known as the Leapmotor T03 will go into production at the Stellantis factory in Tychy, Poland. According to Reuters citing its own sources, all cars for Europe will be assembled using imported SKD kits.

Leapmotor has yet to comment on these reports. Stellantis reps said a while ago that the company found a new partner in China interested in launching production outside of the country.

The Leapmotor T03 is 3.6 meters (140 inches) long and has the body of a subcompact five-door hatchback. Its WLTP-rated driving range is 280 km (174 miles). Some countries in Europe, such as France, are already importing it from China. Priced from €20,000, it is poised to compete against the likes of the BYD Seagull and the Dacia Spring. For comparison, the recently facelifted domestic version of the Leapmotor T03 costs 49,900 Yuan before options (€6,430 or $7,000).

Stellantis Group acquired a 21% share in Leapmotor last fall, reportedly paying $1.6 billion. As a result, it obtained special rights for producing and selling all-electric vehicles under that brand at its newly established joint enterprise, Leapmotor International. The corporation currently holds a 51% stake in Leapmotor International. Commenting on the acquisition, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said the company was looking into bringing Leapmotor EVs to the markets of North America and the EU, among others.
