Unofficial reports are coming in that Toyota is in talks with the Chinese government regarding the construction of a Lexus EV assembly site in the country.
The facility will allegedly be located in Shanghai and deal with assembling production cars based on the Lexus LF-ZC Concept and Lexus LF-ZLC Concept (in the gallery here). Intriguingly, we are told that Toyota hopes to be able to construct the factory on its own, without creating a joint enterprise with a local company as most foreign automakers are incentivized to do.
By localizing its production in China, Lexus hopes to strengthen the market positions of its EVs in the region.
