According to Dataforce, the SUV market segment accounted for more than 50% of all cars sold in Europe since the beginning of 2023, setting a historical precedent. Sedans are losing the popularity contest, but Lexus has just reassured us that it will continue making them – at least for a while.
Speaking with Drive Australia, Takashi Watanabe admitted that the demand for sedans was on a global decline, but said they were still popular enough to justify the investment.
China in particular has a lively market for three-space vehicles: for example, the Lexus ES alone is responsible for a half of the marque’s total sales there. Still, the market in the world’s most populated country is transforming rapidly, and it could be just a matter of time until SUVs conquer it, too.
