Next-gen Lexus GX gains an off-road version

The previous generation of the Lexus GX was 13 years old, but the new one brought along refreshed looks, a turbo six-pot instead of a fuel-hungry V8 and a dedicated version for off-road enthusiasts.

The new GX is 4,950 mm (193.3 inches) long and has 2,850 mm (111.3 inches) of wheelbase. Being based on a completely different platform, it looks quite a bit different, too – bulkier, boxier, with new lights all around and a chrome-free front grille.

The transmission tunnel inside is just as massive as before, but it now houses a charging pad for wireless gadgets, while the buttons have migrated closer to the steering wheel. The dashboard looks more laconic than before and the infotainment display in the most basic spec is sized 14 inches corner-to-corner. The dashboard is also all-digital by default now. For the seats, buyers can choose between six and seven.

At this point, the only engine available in the United States is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder mill rated at 349 hp (354 PS / 260 kW) and 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque.

As for the off-road package mentioned above, it adds 18-inch wheels shod in 33-inch tires, an electronic rear diff lock, all-terrain cruise control and the Lexus E-KDSS system for added stability.
