Lexus’ BMW M3 rival gains muscle

Lexus has launched the IS 500 F Sport Performance on its domestic market. Although a similar model is already available in the USA, its Japanese cousin comes with a slight performance boost. Ordering will open on August 25, and we expect more details by that date.

While the U.S. spec makes 479 metric horsepower (472 hp / 352 kW), the Japanese one is good for 481 PS (474 hp / 354 kW). The torque stays identical at 536 PS (395 lb-ft). Despite its size, the car reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.5 seconds, one-third of a second slower than its main rival, the BMW M3 @480hp.

In addition to the upgraded engine, the F Sport Performance comes with ESP improvements, adaptive suspension and impressively sized brakes. It has a bulging hood, revised bumpers, new 19-inch wheels and four exhaust tips at the rear, making it 50 mm (2 inches) longer than the old version.

Inside, the sport seats now benefit from special trim and ventilation, while the steering wheel comes wrapped in expensive leather.

Sales will begin with 500 First Edition units, which will be shipped to those who participated in a special lottery and won.
