Lexus LBX goes on sale in Japan

Lexus has started taking orders for the new LBX crossover. The company’s smallest vehicle in the lineup costs from 4.6 million JPY, or a touch above 30,000 USD.

The base version utilizes a three-cylinder engine rated at 91 PS (90 hp / 67 kW) and 120 Nm (89 lb-ft) of torque, as well as an electric motor contributing another 94 PS (93 hp / 69 kW) with 185 Nm (136 lb-ft) of torque. An all-wheel-drive top spec is also available that introduces a second electric motor on the rear axle.

Other than that, the LBX runs on the same chassis as the Toyota Yaris Cross. It does have its own body design and interior layout, and rides on unique 18-inch wheels. The base spec includes leather trim, an infotainment system with two displays, an advanced audio system and a handful of driving assists.

Interestingly, those customers who would like a greater degree of personalization can try to get a special package called Bespoke Build. Only 100 Bespoke Build CUVs will be tailor-made for their buyers, and you have to win a lottery to get one.
