Toyota showed us a prototype named the GR GT3 at the latest Tokyo Auto Salon (see the gallery). It never revealed any specifics aside from saying that Gazoo Racing would start building GT3 vehicles from scratch, rather than basing them off existing models.
As it turns out now, the prototype was for the next generation of the Lexus RC (see the video). TRD President David Wilson hinted at the fact in a recent interview, adding that the car was built to arouse interest from racing teams. A while ago, Wilson and Lexus CEO Scott Thompson assured the media that the next-gen RC and RC F models would benefit from the experience the company had accumulated in professional motorsports.
Both should premiere in the coming few years, and Lexus will be using carbon fiber in their construction to keep both as light as possible. Engine power is also expected to go up considerably.
