Same looks, more drive: Lexus facelifts the RX & RXL

Japanese luxury carmaker Lexus has conducted a mid-generational refresh of its RX and RXL models. Let us look at the specifics.

On the outside, neither of the cars looks much different from its previous version save for maybe the radiator grille, the anti-fog lights that now reside in the lower half of the front bumper, and the brake lights.

The cabin also has little novelty to show for the update. The 12.3-inch infotainment display in the more expensive trim versions is now touch-enabled, and the system now has voice control and smartphone connectivity, but that is about it.

Among other things, both SUVs now come with advanced safety tech. The video cameras have improved their low-light capability and can now properly recognize cyclists.

The long-wheelbase RXL version now allows you to move the third seat row forward or backward depending on how much trunk space you need.

The true highlight of the facelift comes in form of improved handling and dynamics. The company claims that the RX is now more fun to drive owing to the tweaked chassis, shocks, and steering.

The engine palette stays the same. Depending on the market, this means choosing in the area of 238 – 313 horsepower (177 – 233 kilowatts).

The 2019 Lexus RX/RXL facelift will enter production in the third quarter of 2019 and hit the showrooms in the autumn or later.
