Weird SUV, weird kit: The TOM’s Lexus RX

Failing to score a hit with your target audience is always a sad thing, and this 2020 Lexus RX with the newest styling package from Japanese tuner TOM’s misses at least twice.

There has been plenty of opinions voiced about the latest-gen RX, and while some seem to like it a lot, most agree that the manufacturer didn’t quite realize which direction to take the luxury SUV in. Hence the sported-up looks and 313 hp (233 kW) under the hood in the F-Sport spec going side-by-side with squishy soft suspension.

The other discrepancy comes in the form of the hard speed limiter set to 200 km/h (124 mph) for the five-seater version and the outrageous 180 km/h (112 mph) for the seven-seater. Did I hear you say ‘sport’? Never mind, I guess.

Ironically enough, the styling kit by TOM’s released a couple days ago suffers from the exact same affliction. An unassuming front spoiler, clunky side sills and a faux diffuser at the rear – this is the complete list, and it looks every bit as exciting as it sounds. Note the gaps between the parts – it doesn’t look as though someone had their heart in it.

In other words, look at the pics and remember how things should not be done.
