Two Japanese publications, Creative311 and Magazine X, claim that Lexus intends to revise the powertrain lineup in its RX line of vehicles soon, adding as many as three plug-in hybrid options.
First of all, Lexus will allegedly drop the 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 in favor of a new 2.4-liter petrol turbo. This sounds like the engine of the new NX model, which makes 279 PS (275 hp / 205 kW) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque.
As for the part-electric options, there will be three to choose from. The RX500h flagship will reportedly use the engine mentioned above with a single electric motor. Slotting in below it will be the RX450h+, a hybrid with no forced induction but a larger displacement volume to compensate for that. Finally, it looks like there will be an affordable RX350h model.
We will know whether this is accurate when the next-generation Lexus RX debuts in the second half of the year.
