Lexus is preparing for an expansion of its RZ electric crossover lineup. According to CarBuzz, the company has just applied for a number of new trademarks in several countries, including ‘RZ550e’ which may become its new flagship.
The publication believes that Lexus will be turning its RZ Sport Concept from the beginning of this year into the production e-SUV known as the RZ550e. You will find the concept car in the gallery and the video below. Aside from a more aggressive body kit and overall styling, it had a more powerful rear axle motor. Packing 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) instead of the standard 109 PS (108 hp / 80 kW), it raised the combined AWD output to a cool 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW).
It is also possible that the new RZ flagship will actually be called RZ500e, while the 550e designation will be reserved for its long-range modification packing a bigger battery. Then again, Lexus might even decide to add a third motor to the SUV to help it compete in the crowded EV market of today; it remains to be seen.
Another trademark application concerns a vehicle called ‘RZ350e’. Earlier this month, Lexus previewed an entry-level electric SUV concept named ‘300e’. Once again, the new designation may mean a bigger battery.
