Lexus opens pre-order books for its first EV

The first fully electric Lexus car – the UX 300e – has gone on sale in Europe priced starting from £43,900 in Great Britain. The price point below £50,000 makes it eligible for a £3,000 state subsidy, but the EV still commands a sizeable premium over its gas-powered siblings starting from £29,900.

There is only one trim version in the range, which includes LED lighting all around, automatic high beam, heated front seats, parking sensors, a reversing camera, and 17-inch wheels.

Two optional packages are available: Premium Plus (£47,400+) and Takumi (£53,500+). The former introduces leather seats, steering wheel heating, keyless entry and wireless charging. The Takumi improves upon all of the above with a high-end audio system, a 10.3-inch infotainment display, all-around cameras, a HUD, 18-inch wheels and a sunroof.

The first customers will be able to claim their pre-orders next year at the earliest. The original Lexus UX 300e was introduced last November and packed a single electric motor capable of 204 PS (150 kW) mounted on the front axle. Its 54.3-kWh battery was NEDC-tested for 400 km (248 miles) of driving range.
