The Japanese premium car manufacturer may be seriously thinking about releasing an especially compact crossover utility vehicle that would be smaller than the UX. This is evidenced by the new trademark, ‘LBX’, that the company has recently obtained rights for in Europe.
Then again, the three-letter abbreviation could be used for a concept car, while the production model might end up with the more traditional two-letter name, such as ‘BX’.
The alleged soft-roader will come based on the GA-C chassis of the Toyota Yaris Cross (see photos) and will likely have comparable body dimensions. It may also inherit Toyota’s engine, a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo assisted by an electric motor for 116 hp (87 kW) total.
The Lexus BX should cost around $27,000 and become available sometime around 2023. In the meantime, the UX series remains the smallest Lexus series to date (watch the video for a closer look).
