Lexus UX300e hits domestic market

After launching in China and Europe, the all-electric Lexus UX300e is now available via pre-orders on its domestic market, Japan.

The crossover SUV uses a single front-mounted electric motor rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW). Its traction battery lies at the bottom and supplies 54.3 kilowatt-hours of juice, which translates into 400 kilometers (248 miles) of NEDC-rated range. The arguably more realistic WLTC test protocol awards it 367 km (228 miles), however, and charging from zero to 75% full takes 50 minutes at a 50kW capable station. A full charge can be obtained within 80 minutes, but plug it into your household wall socket, and it becomes 7 hours or more.

Prices in Japan start from 5.8 million Yen, and the company only expects to sell 135 units there. Pre-orders will be running until November 4, and the company will be arranging a draw to determine who gets the rest of the cars produced if demand exceeds supply.
