This year’s Consumer Electronics Show has been fairly rich in automotive premieres from companies not normally involved with that industry. The most recent example is LG, which came to the show with its own take on fully autonomous cars.
The Alpha-able Project seen here is an attempt to reinvent the passenger space of a car from scratch as new technologies emerge and owners come to expect new things from their smart vehicles. LG believes that autonomous cars are supposed to be versatile and configurable before anything else.
This is why the Alpha-able offers a cabin you can turn into a work study, a recreation area, a dining room or a cinema on wheels. The latter is especially interesting because it uses flexible see-through displays that you can unroll to watch a movie and then roll back so they don’t occupy any extra space.
Aside from that, LG hinted that it managed to integrate certain ‘household appliances’ into the project. There are no further details at this moment.
Like most of its show peers, the Alpha-able comes equipped with an AI voice assistant to make every trip memorable and unique, LG says. Passengers can also relax in their massage seats while watching calming pictures on the screens.
The company avoided commenting on whether any of the tech shown will make it to the mass market anytime in the foreseeable future.
