Lightyear 0 developers set to work on a solar SUV

Lightyear, a company that designed a largely sun-powered car called the Zero (watch the video for the details), is now getting ready to unveil a much more affordable crossover SUV operating on the same principle.

The coupe-like utility vehicle is going to be cost less than one-sixth of the Zero liftback: just €40,000 versus the €250,000 of the latter. The teasers the company published along with this announcement offer different angles on the body of the car, taking care not to reveal it in full on any single pic. Note that the profile view reveals a particularly long rear end – probably there to improve aerodynamic performance and maximize solar panel space, which stretches from the hood through the roof to the tailgate.

The manufacturer promises us that the Lightyear 2 – this is what the model is called – will have around 800 kilometers (497 miles) of range. It is slated to reach the showrooms in 2025, but you can already place your pre-order.
