Lincoln to wrap up Continental production in 2020

The first Lincoln Continental luxury limos hit the United States roads back in the 1930s and will finally become history with the production end scheduled for late this year.

Angie Kozleski, a spokesperson for the American brand, said in a recent interview that the company was heavily investing in growing areas of the market and particularly in the SUV sector, including all-electric SUVs.

Full-size saloons are on a sharp downward trajectory in the United States right now, having lost sales quarter-to-quarter for several years already. Predictably enough, many manufacturers choose to cut down on their production.

The Continental peaked in popularity in 2017 with over 12,000 units sold, but went on to plunge to just 6,586 in 2019. The earlier generations used to sell 40,000 – 50,000 annual units.
