Lincoln, a North American premium car brand and division of Ford, has officially declared the current generation of its Continental luxury sedan the last one. The news caused quite a stir in the automotive world, since the latest update seemed to breathe new life into the opulent vehicle – and enjoyed decent sales.
The company addressed these concerns by pointing out that worldwide demand for cars like this keeps falling just as the sales numbers of crossovers and SUV models keep growing. Even with this in mind, there won’t be a Lincoln Continental SUV to replace the original car.
Nevertheless, rumors persist that a brand new Lincoln car will eventually fill the market gap left by the Continental and become a worthy competitor of Mercedes, Audi, and BMW vehicles on the market.
