Lincoln announced early this year that it would be putting the MKZ sedan model out of production soon. Media received reports that the car would be discontinued on July 21, but the actual production lasted ten days longer than that.
The MKZ went in the footsteps (tire tracks?) of the Ford Fusion, which left the assembly lines around the same time. Neither has any successors on the market right now, and Ford plans to use the industrial capacities thus freed to accelerate the production of its new Bronco SUV.
This leaves the Ford Mustang as the only Ford-branded light passenger car in the United States. Lincoln will soon have none on offer, because the Continental is almost as good as gone. Lincoln said earlier it would prioritize crossovers and off-roaders from now on.
