Lincoln patens the exterior of a new sedan

Images of the upcoming Lincoln Zephyr for China have surfaced online looking much like the widely popular Ford Mondeo sedan.

The car has a strong semblance to the Zephyr Reflection Concept revealed this spring (see video). In fact, it looks indistinguishable from it except for the conventional mirrors in place of video cameras. China forbids the use of cameras instead of mirrors on public roads.

Platform and drivetrain remain undisclosed. CarNewsChina points out that the car strongly resembles the Ford Mondeo, however, and Ford owns the Lincoln brand, so we may safely expect it to come powered by 1.5- and 2.0-liter turbos.

Changan-Ford joint enterprise produced the Mondeo in China, so it would make sense for the new Zephyr to be assembled there as well. The odds of it appearing somewhere outside of China are low. Sales should begin in mid-2022, and the debut might take place at the Guangzhou trade fair in November. Granted, none of this is official yet.

In 2020, Lincoln discontinued its Continental sedan for good and thus ditched its last four-door vehicle from the lineup. The latest generation had only been in production for four years, either, indicating low demand. The marque managed to move over 12,000 units in the USA in 2017, but half as many in 2019. As of right now, Lincoln only offers crossover SUVs and electric cars in the States.
