Lotus Type 132 teased on video for the first time

Lotus aims to produce four all-electric cars over the next five year. The first of them, currently known only as the Type 132, is a crossover SUV set to debut in 2022.

In the video just posted by the company, the camera mainly focuses on the active aerodynamic louvers in the fake radiator grille. The hexagonal part resides above a carbon-fiber front splitter jutting from under the nose of the car and likely serves multiple purposes, enhancing its looks, providing the necessary cooling for the electric powertrain, and optimizing aerodynamics.

Details remain scant at this point. Lotus claims the SUV will need three seconds for a sprint from 0 to 97 km/h (0-60 mph). It will support an innovative 800V charging interface capable of topping up the batteries zero to 80 percent within 20 minutes. Battery sizes will vary from 92 to 120 kilowatt-hours.

When the Type 132 hits the market, the company will switch attention towards producing a four-door coupe and an even larger SUV. An all-electric sports car should arrive by 2026.
