Lotus to reveal its first all-electric SUV on March 29

Not that long ago, we would never have expected to see the words “EV” and “SUV” in the same sentence as “Lotus”, but times surely have changed.

It is official now that the British marque’s pioneering battery crossover will break cover on March 29, 2022. We also know that it will be based on the new Evolution platform, which the company intends to use for all of its premium vehicles with 2,889 – 2,100 mm of wheelbase.

The SUV will only need around three seconds to go from standing still to highway speed, and may pack as much as 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW), although the latter bit remains unconfirmed. On the other hand, an 800V traction battery with rapid charge support is officially on the feature list.

Contrary to what many of us expected, the assembly will take place in China, rather than Norfolk. The company plans to use its newly constructed site in Wuhan to put together these SUVs, which remain unnamed to this day. The internal designation used is “Type 132”.
