Lotus previews its first new sedan in three decades

The all-electric sedan formerly known as ‘Type 133’ will debut as Lotus Emeya on next Thursday, September 7. It will be the British automaker’s third electric vehicle and its first new saloon in around 30 years. Rumor has it that it will run on Eletre tech.

The video shows a darkened car silhouette with brightly lit headlights and taillights and an active spoiler at the rear end.

In all likelihood, the Emeya will run on an 800V electric architecture of the Lotus Eletre SUV. The latter comes in two flavors – 612 PS (603 hp / 450 kW) and 918 PS (905 hp / 675 kW). Opting for the 918-PS version lets you sprint from zero to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 2.95 seconds. If the sedan gets the same powertrain, it will end up being a direct competitor of the top-of-the-line Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan models.

Feature-wise, we expect four-wheel steering, adaptive air-ride suspension and active roll suppression system.

The production will take place at an assembly plant in China owned by Geely, which Lotus is a part of. The same site is currently producing the Eletre.
