87 miles in 5 minutes: Lotus unveils its EV charger lineup

Geely-owned car brand Lotus plans to go all-electric by 2028. As it approaches this goal, the company has produced the Eletre SUV (see video) and the Emeya sedan. To support its growing portfolio of battery cars, the British marque has now devised multiple fast charging solutions – available in China now and coming to Europe next year.

The charging terminal utilizes liquid cooling to replenish enough charge for 140 kilometers (87 miles) of driving within five minutes, the company says. The range is quoted for the Eletre R model. To put things into perspective, using Tesla’s Supercharger V3 for five minutes only gives you 120 km (75 miles) of range, and the other alternatives are still worse.

Lotus has also previewed the concept of a charger outlet that supports four simultaneous EV connections. These will first appear in China and should eventually make it to Europe as well, the company says.
