The latest YouTube video by Barcroft Cars reminisces about the unique ‘scuba diving car’ created by tuner Rinspeed back in 2008.
Based on the Lotus Elise chassis and tech, one of Rinspeed's crazier projects packs a well-insulated electric powertrain, which allows it to move underwater and drive on public roads as normal. To that end, it has the full set of documents making it street-legal.
Several propellers in the rear part of the convertible’s body enable it to swim underwater. The cabin trim consists of hydrophobic or otherwise quickly drying materials, and the passengers have access to oxygen masks and tanks.
