Autocar is reporting that an entry-level Lotus sports car, provisionally named Type 135, will debut in 2026 and continue where the Elise left off.
Last month, Lotus revealed some details about its upcoming EV platform that it plans on using for all future zero-emission cars. Apparently, the Type 135 will be the first production car based on it. It will strive to preserve the British luxury brand’s DNA and its core values of performance, low weight and great handling. The so-called E-Sports platform (see video) will be available in single- and dual-motor configurations, but even the least powerful motor will be rated at 470 PS (464 hp / 346 kW). This will make the Elise successor twice as powerful as the Elise Sport 240 Final Edition featured in our gallery here. The latter makes do with a 1.8-liter IC engine and 240 PS (237 hp / 176 kW).
Lotus will make an effort to keep its entry-level sports EV priced low enough to be competitive.
