Lotus Emeya outperforms 9 EVs in charging speed

Lotus has officially confirmed its Emeya liftback winning the title of one of the world’s fastest-charging electric cars. In a study conducted by consulting company P3 Group, it utilized the highest charging power available to it and was full before all competition.

The company conducted the test at a public charging station using a high-end 400kW charging point. With the Emeya plugged in, the charging power averaged at a cool 331 kW and even hit 402 kW on one occasion. The car was able to refill its pack from 10 to 80 percent in 14 minutes. Since it consumes roughly 18.7 kilowatt-hours of power per 100 kilometers of driving, this means it had replenished enough juice in 10 minutes to drive 310 km (192 miles). Lotus called it an absolute record without elaborating further.

Aside from the Emeya, the study encompassed BMW i7 eDrive50, BYD Atto 3, Genesis G80 Electrified, Hyundai Ioniq 6 RWD, Kia EV9 RWD, Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+, Nio ET5 Touring Long Range, Tesla Model Y RWD Long Range, and XPeng G9 RWD Long Range. The China-made XPeng was the only one to even come close to the British liftback in terms of charging speed, taking 233 kW on average with spikes up to 320 kW. The two Koreans scored third and fourth places, while the Tesla landed fifth with 141 kW (avg.) and the BYD landed even farther down the list with 75 kW (avg.).
