Lotus teases an electric sports car ahead of launch… in 2026

The much-anticipated Lotus Type 132 (temporary name) will be unveiled this spring followed by a four-door coupe (Type 133) and a smaller CUV (Type 134). Finally, an electric sports car (Type 135) will join the range in 2026. Here’s what it will look like.

As some of you may know, the Emira is officially the last Lotus car running on ICE power. The British marque plans to assemble its first trio of EVs numbered 132 through 134 in Wuhan, China, while the performance-focused Type 135 will be made in Hethel, England. Despite the fact that its launch is at least four years away, the company wants us to know what it will look like when it does debut.

Furthermore, Alpine will use the Type 135 to design its own car based on it. The vehicle teased on the sketch has a sharp nose much like that of the Esprit. Judging by the strongly slanted roof, it is going to be a coupe with sharply defined wheel arches and fenders. When the Type 135 debuts, it will serve as the spiritual successor to the Elise model (see photos) retiring after 25 years in production.

Platform-wise, the newcomer is expected to use E-Sports tech and come in single- and dual-motor versions to choose from. The E-Sports platform is designed for power ratings in the 469-872 metric horsepower range (463-860 hp; 345-640 kW). One motor means RWD, while two mean AWD.
