The Lotus vehicle lineup drastically shrunk with the Evora, Elise and Exige leaving production, and supply issues in the second half of 2022 only aggravated the issue. As a result, the British automaker sold a dismal 576 cars last year – almost three times less compared to the year before.
Compounding on the issues is a net loss of £145,100,000. To manage it, the company will be reducing its staff: according to Top Gear, 200 employees are on their way out of the company in the near future. Most of the cuts will fall on the administrative and engineering staff occupying offices in Hethel and Warwickshire.
In 2023, Lotus plans to ramp up the demand for the Emira, its final ICE vehicle, and the Eletre SUV for China. The company expects to set a new sales record this year and bounce back financially thanks to focusing on these two new models.
