Lotus unveiled the first prototype of its new supercar called Esprit a decade ago (you may see it in the gallery and the video), but the production never started due to various reasons. It is now being reported that the production may finally start next year.
The original concept car came equipped with a Toyota-made 5.0 V8 engine rated close to 620 hp (462 kW). The newcomer will get a 3.5-liter V6 instead, also Toyota-made and assisted by an electric motor for around 500 hp (375 kW) total.
Once it hits the showrooms, the mid-engined Lotus Esprit will be positioned above the Evora. The sales are scheduled for the first half of 2021 in a variety of countries, including the United States and China.
