An elderly Lotus sports car sells for double the price of its modern successor

A 2003 Lotus Esprit V8 Last Edition fetched $144,444 at an auction in the United States, nearly twice the starting price of the Lotus Emira on its domestic market.

Lotus had put together 10,675 units of the Esprit during its 28 years in production, rounding it off with 79 Last Edition units. This particular example had around 24,000 km (15,000 miles) on the odometer, out of which 2,300 km (1,430 miles) was the mileage the last owner put on it. The car underwent a complete maintenance earlier in the year.

The twin-turbocharged V8 under the hood makes 355 PS (350 hp / 261 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. A five-speed manual transmission drives the rear axle.
