Gavin Kershaw quotes crazy acceleration times for Lotus Evija

In a recent interview, Lotus chief test driver Gavin Kershaw shared his insights into the speed potential of the company’s upcoming all-electric hypercar, the Evija.

According to him, the car launches like a projectile, hitting 300 km/h (186 mph) in nine seconds. Even the celebrated Bugatti Chiron performs the same discipline in 13.6 seconds; the Koenigsegg Regera lags behind as well. He also emphasized that the manufacturer has no intention to tune the powertrain to reduce the initial 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) sprint time to under two seconds. Instead, Lotus focuses on achieving the best possible dynamics in other modes. For one, the Evija bridges the gap between 100 and 200 km/h (60-120 mph) in just three seconds and maxes out at 320 km/h (200 mph).

The hypercar is being co-designed with a Formula E parts supplier and has a 500-horsepower engine mounted on each of its four wheels. The system as a whole is therefore capable of 2,000 hp (1,491 kW) and 1,700 Nm (1,254 lb-ft) of torque. The battery stores up to 70 kilowatt-hours of power and is enough for up to 400 kilometers (248 miles) of range.

The production run will be limited to 130 units priced at £1,700,000 each.
