The British niche carmaker had planned to bring its first hypercar out this summer, but the pandemic forced a delay until mid-2021.
The manufacturer has lost five months during which it had originally intended to test various Evija prototypes, particularly assessing the performance and reliability of its various units and components in the conditions of Spanish heat. The testing has only just begun now, and aggravating the matter is the fact that other vendors had found themselves in the same situation, so they couldn’t manufacture and supply parts any earlier, resulting in mass schedule shifts throughout the industry.
This is not to say that Lotus had been idle until now – on the contrary, the engineering team has found a way to improve the aerodynamics of its hypercar and raise its effective output to 2,028 PS (2,000 hp, or 1,490 kW). The power rating previously reported was 2,000 PS (1,973 hp, or 1,471 kW).
