Lotus to develop an EV platform against UK Govt order

Lotus Cars has won the tender for the development of an all-electric car architecture posted by the government of Great Britain. The goal is to come up with a new platform for production cars that the country will also carry out various civil services.

Lotus will cooperate with the Brunel University London and metallurgy company Sarginsons Industries. The platform already has a name: LEVA, which stands for “Lightweight Electric Vehicle Architecture”. No technical specifications or release dates have been announced so far.

It has to be noted that, while Lotus has a subdivision called Lotus Engineering that often cooperates with larger businesses, the company itself has precious little experience designing actual electric cars. Its Evija Concept (see the gallery and the video) debuted last summer, but won’t be out until at least mid-2021.
