New Lotus Type 131 teased ahead of debut

With the Lotus Elise coming out as far back as 1995, the Exige only five years after that, and the Evora in 2008, you will be justified to call the lineup dated. Realizing this, the British automaker has announced an all-new sports car, so far only known as the Type 131.

The other three models will be discontinued later this year, the company reports. The production site and staff will undergo expansion, with Geely – which owns Lotus – having lately hired 920 new employees.

Looking at the teaser pic, one might assume that the Type 131 will debut in three different versions. They could all be V6-based hybrids rated close to 500 hp (373 kW). The company promises two seats and a roomy trunk.

On the outside, the Type 131 looks much like the all-electric Evija, and should become the marque’s last ICE car.
