Technically, Lotus had an SUV going since 2006 with its turbo-V6-packing APX Concept, but that one never made it into production. Its spiritual successor running on electric power has been finally revealed now.
Called the Eletre, the EV will be made at the Lotus factory built for it by its governing company, Geely, in Wuhan, China. It will also become the company’s first truly mass-market battery vehicle, since the Evija was a hypercar capped at just 130 units worldwide.
The platform the Eletre is based on supports wheelbase lengths from 2,889 to 3,100 millimeters (113–121 inches) and batteries rated up to 120 kilowatt-hours. It will most likely be an AWD car reaching 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW) or so in the top spec.
The British carmaker plans to follow up with a four-door coupe and a smaller crossover in the next two years.
