Radford revives the exotic Lotus Type 62 racer

British car company Radford has revealed its first project in 55 years. Dubbed the Type 62-2, it is a coupe with 1969 Lotus looks.

The original vehicle manufacturer assisted the company in designing the racecar based on the Lotus Evora platform. It runs on a modified version of the 3.5-liter 2GR-FE V6 engine of the Toyota Camry, which now produces 436 PS (430 hp / 321 kW). Customers can go manual with this entry-level engine option.

Higher specifications will be rated at 507 PS (500 hp / 373 kW) and 608 PS (600 hp / 447 kW). Both will feature seven-speed DSG transmission, carbon-ceramic brakes and an electronic diff lock in the back. Neither will exceed one metric ton (2,200 lbs) of curb weight.

Elsewhere, the continuation series sports gullwing doors and vertical windshield wipers, like those used in endurance racing.

Interior highlights include a seven-inch digital gauge panel, a couple of screens mounted on the a-pillars displaying the live feed from rearview cameras, an electronic rearview mirror, Bluetooth support, and a five-channel audio system.

Radford will be making 62 units at undisclosed prices, with the first buyers set to receive their cars early next year.
