Video: Watch the 1,000HP Lucid Air saloon run its pre-production tests

Lucid Motors has released footage filmed during the live tests of its upcoming all-electric sedan/saloon, the Air. The engineer team perfected the powertrain and the steering this time around.

The car originally emerged as the Edna Concept and ran the drag strip faster than the Ferrari California and the Tesla Model S. In 2016, the company revealed another prototype that looked somewhat more production-ready. However, it wasn’t until now that the first official specs became available.

One of the killer features of the innovative supercar comes in the form of its high-voltage traction battery. The 900-volt array gives it at least 400 miles (644 kilometers, EPA-rated) of driving range even in its ‘medium’ size. The range granted by the ‘large’ 130-kWh battery remains to be measured, Lucid says.

The top trim packs around 1,000 hp (745 kW) and needs 2.5 seconds to zap 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph).

The Lucid Air will be revealed in full detail at the NIYAS 2020 show in New York, USA in April.
