Ever since the Lucid Air EV Concept debuted in late 2016, the manufacturer had been postponing the production start in Casa Grande, Arizona, USA for various reasons. It’s been made official now that we’ll be seeing the production car on September 9, 2020.
No detailed specifications, trim levels or prices have been revealed so far, but conjecture abounds around what is one of the world’s most anticipated luxury EVs. It seems probable that the entry-level spec will ship with a single 400hp (300kW) electric motor mounted on the rear axle, as well as a 100-kWh for 300 miles (482 kilometers) of range.
The starting price of U.S. $52,500 was tentatively announced three years ago, calculated with all subsidies and deductions applicable at the time. The final price tag may prove quite different.
The flagship AWD spec was also announced with 1,000 hp (745 kilowatts), a 130-kWh battery and 400 miles (643 km) of range. $100,000 was given as a rough price estimate.
Lotus has kept the pre-order books open since last December, and the required deposit amount is $1,000.
