Lucid Air has pitted its Air supersedan up against what looks like an older Tesla Model S Performance. Elon Musk’s liftback proved no match for the power-packed saloon.
The range-topping Model S Performance needs mere 2.4 seconds to zap from standstill to 97 km/h (0-60 mph), making it a supercar killer on a drag strip. It looks like the Lucid Air may dethrone it as the world’s fastest accelerating sedan.
One important thing to keep in mind is that one and the same designer was responsible for both vehicles: Peter Rawlinson used to be the Chief Engineer of the Model S department before breaking off from Tesla to found his own startup called Lucid Motors.
Rawlinson said his Air saloon would surpass its Tesla rival in all measurable aspects, targeting a higher vehicle class, costing less than the Model S and featuring a luxury interior trim.
