A recent YouTube video brings some of the world’s most powerful electric cars to a drag strip battle: a Lucid Air Performance goes up against a Tesla Model S Plaid.
The Lucid coupe packs dual motors jointly rated at 1,111 PS (1,096 hp / 817 kW). It weighs 2,375 kg (5,235 lbs) and has four driven wheels. The accompanying papers claim it can sprint from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.5 seconds.
In turn, the Tesla Model S Plaid has a tri-motor configuration rated at 1,020 PS (1,006 hp / 750 kW). It also has four driven wheels, but tips the scales at just 2,192 kg (4,832 lbs). The manufacturer claims its sprint time is as low as 1.99 seconds.
In the series of races that ensued, including standing and rolling starts, Tesla easily won three out of four. The important thing to note is that it had its Drag Mode disabled and launch control enabled. The only time the driver turned off launch control he lost the race.
Overall, the Lucid Air looks no less promising than the Plaid with its high-end adaptive cruise control and 836 km (520 miles) of range. In fact, it is the longest-range production EV on the market right now.
