Lucid has recently issued an over-the-air (OTA) update for its Air luxury sedan. It was able to install itself without incident on most cars, but one Air was rendered completely dysfunctional, Lucid Insider reports.
The report comes from the owner of the car, who approached it only to see a warning message on the infotainment screen and found the doors locked. He was able to crawl inside through the tailgate entrance, but turning off the message was not an option. He did notice that the transmission could be set to Forward or Reverse, meaning he could potentially start the car and drive it. However, he decided to be reasonable and wait until the critical issue with the update was resolved.
He contacted technical support, and several hours later, the company pushed a software fix to his car that took a whole hour to download. It then proceeded to install up to 24%, whereupon it failed once again with the same message.
The company promised to release another special update package and push it to the car, but it remains to be seen how much time it will take and how efficient it will be. In the meantime, Lucid strongly advised against driving the bricked Air.
