Lucid Air gets a wallet-friendlier, single-motor edition

The Lucid Air EV lineup has expanded with a new base model, Pure RWD. It starts from $77,400 before delivery fees, making it the cheapest Lucid vehicle so far, Carscoops reports.

This version of the sedan makes do with a single electric motor, which produces 436 PS (430 hp / 321 kW) and lets the car reach 97 km/h (60 mph) in 4.5 seconds. To put things into perspective, the Lucid Air Pure AWD squeezes a combined 487 PS (480 hp / 358 kW) out of its two motors and concludes the same sprint in 3.8 seconds, but costs $5,000 more.

Like the AWD version, the Pure RWD offers 660 km (410 miles) of range per charge. Its actual battery capacity is smaller, but the company doesn’t provide any further specifics.

The pinnacle of the lineup is still occupied by the Air Sapphire, a quad-motor hypercar with 1,234 PS (1,217 hp / 908 kW) and 1,424 Nm (1,050 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal. It surpasses the dreaded Tesla Model S Plaid in power, acceleration, top speed and range, but costs a great deal more, too – U.S. $249,000 before any options.
