Lucid Gravity outperforms Tesla Model X in range and arguably looks, too

Lucid has brought its first production SUV EV, the Gravity, to the annual auto show in Los Angeles. Like the Tesla Model X, the battery crossover comes priced under $80,000 while offering 700 km (435 miles) of range – around 150 km (93 miles) more than its main rival does. The production will have to wait until late 2024, though.

Only a few parameters are available in the meantime. For example, the company never disclosed the power and torque. It did say that the motors were next-generation compared to those installed on its Air saloon lineup. The Gravity sprints to 97 km/h (60 mph) in 3.5 seconds.

Innovations are promised in the battery department as well, with Lucid proudly claiming that the car is using a battery that’s only half as big as the competing brands. A 900V power architecture on board will let drivers replenish it for more than 200 miles (322 km) of range in less than 15 minutes of charging.

The dashboard has two displays on it, including a giant 32-inch digital instrument cluster and a smaller-sized head unit mostly acting as a control panel. One more display resides at the rear. The suspension benefits from adaptive shocks and supports height adjustment, which can be manual or automatic depending on the chosen spec.
