Mahindra’s next electric SUV to use LG battery cells

LG will supply traction batteries for the next Mahindra-badged electric crossover SUV scheduled to debut in September.

The two companies have been partners in electric car technology development for several years now. Very little is known about the SUV itself, except for the fact that its internal designation is ‘XUV400’ and that it shares many of its internals with the existing XUV300 model shown in our gallery here. The first deliveries are expected in 2023.

Over the next four years, the automotive giant plans to launch four more EVs. Their share on the market of India is currently as low as 1%, but the target for 2030 is 30%. For its own part, Volkswagen Group pledges to provide Mahindra with its MEB unitized car platform, which should expedite the development and production of battery-powered vehicles.
