Mahindra names new MPV, shows sketches and teaser pics

Indian car manufacturer Mahindra has settled on a name for its upcoming MPV and released a few images for us to get an idea of what it looks like. The premiere is expected anytime soon.

The car will be called Marazzo, which can be translated from the Basque language as “Shark”. It was designed in partnership with Pininfarina, a renowned Italian coachbuilder and car design atelier.

Reportedly, the Mahindra Marazzo takes advantage of a brand-new chassis, but no further details are being provided. The MPV will be released in seven- and eight-seat versions.

The features list includes a state-of-the-art infotainment system with a touchscreen display, a climate control unit, and LED-based lighting.

No official engine data exists to date, but rumor has it the new Mahindra Marazzo will ship with a fresh 1.6L diesel engine capable of 125 hp (93 kW), developed in cooperation with SsangYong. A gasoline engine should be available as well.

The company plans to launch domestic sales of its new MPV as early as September. Once out, the car will have to fight for customer attention with such entries as the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
